About the Company and the Position
Our client is building a high-reliability, AI-first application focused on long-running workflows, persistent context, and real-world task completion. The system handles multi-step reasoning, interacts with external tools, and remains robust despite non-deterministic model behavior. We are looking for a Technical Lead, Applications who will directly own the design, reliability, and evolution of backend services, APIs, and client integrations across mobile and desktop. This is a hands-on leadership role — you stay close to the code, make critical architectural decisions, and ensure the system remains fast, reliable, and coherent as it scales.

Technical Lead Applications – Key Responsibilities
- Own application engineering strategy: Drive execution across backend, mobile, and desktop with full architectural accountability.
- Lead and grow a senior team: Build and develop a small, high-caliber applications team including backend, mobile, and desktop engineers.
- Ensure production-grade reliability: Own observability, monitoring, retries, fallbacks, failure handling, privacy, and cost controls across all systems.
- Set architectural direction: Define the approach for AI-powered product workflows, APIs, and client integrations with clear abstractions and predictable behavior.
- Integrate AI capabilities into product: Ensure model capabilities are surfaced in the product with graceful failure modes and coherent user experiences.
- Partner with ML leadership: Collaborate closely with Machine Learning leadership to translate model capability into shippable, reliable product features.
- Make high-impact decisions: Balance latency, cost, reliability, security, and user experience in every major technical decision.
- Establish execution culture: Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, design reviews, and hands-on technical leadership.
- Balance speed and discipline: Ship quickly without compromising long-term system quality or architectural integrity.
Technical Lead Applications – Main Requirements
- Significant leadership experience: Proven track record leading application or product engineering for complex, production-grade systems.
- Strong hands-on background: Deep experience building and shipping backend systems used in real production environments.
- AI product delivery experience: Hands-on experience delivering AI-powered products with a strong understanding of model integration trade-offs.
- Excellent system design skills: Across services, APIs, clients, and data flows at scale.
- Cross-platform comfort: Ability to operate across backend, mobile, and desktop — even if your primary depth is in one area.
- High-ambiguity decision making: Proven ability to make sound, high-impact technical decisions with incomplete information.
- Shipping bias: Strong inclination toward iteration and learning from real-world usage rather than over-engineering upfront.
- Quality over credentials: We hire for engineering judgment, technical depth, and ownership — not degrees, Big Tech background, or seniority titles.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to lead effectively in a remote, high-trust, fast-paced environment.
