We are partnered with a rapidly growing, well-funded AI-native startup building the next generation of proactive smart assistants for everyday users. Their mission is to fundamentally change how people communicate and get things done, starting by reimagining email to reduce the average time spent on it from four hours a day to just thirty minutes. Due to continued product expansion and global traction, they are expanding their engineering team and looking for a Senior Android Engineer to take ownership of the mobile client experience and help shape how AI feels, behaves, and performs on millions of devices.

About the Company and the Position
Our client is building a high-reliability, AI-first application focused on long-running workflows, persistent context, and real-world task completion. The system handles multi-step reasoning, interacts with external tools, and remains robust despite non-deterministic model behavior. We are looking for a Senior Android Engineer who will own the Android client experience end-to-end. This is not a thin-client role. You will build a production-grade Android application where AI interactions (chat, vision, voice, recommendations) are core to the product, and where performance, reliability, and clarity are paramount.

Senior Android Engineer – Key Responsibilities
- Build and scale production apps: Develop and maintain robust Android applications using Kotlin, ensuring high performance and reliability.
- Integrate AI-powered features: Seamlessly connect backend AI capabilities (chat, vision, voice, recommendations) into the mobile experience.
- Design AI-native UX patterns: Craft intuitive interfaces for streaming responses, retries, partial results, and permission-based AI actions.
- Optimize performance: Profile and optimize memory usage, CPU efficiency, and responsiveness for AI-heavy, latency-sensitive flows.
- Ensure reliability and observability: Implement analytics, logging, and feedback capture to support AI evaluation, early production issue detection, and clear root-cause analysis.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with backend and ML engineers to define API contracts, system behavior, and gracefully handle non-deterministic edge cases.
Senior Android Engineer – Main requirements
- Android expertise: 5+ years of professional Android development experience using Kotlin (Java knowledge is a plus).
- AI/ML integration: Hands-on experience integrating AI features (e.g., LLM APIs, vision, speech) or light on-device inference (e.g., TensorFlow Lite, MLKit).
- Asynchronous mastery: Strong understanding of Kotlin Coroutines and Flow for handling complex, concurrent operations.
- API & Data proficiency: Familiarity with REST or gRPC APIs, SQL/NoSQL databases, and structured data formats.
- Performance & debugging: Strong profiling skills, with comfort building in environments featuring latency, partial failures, and non-deterministic behavior.
- Production track record: Experience with published, production-ready apps on the Google Play Store.
- Quality over credentials: We hire for quality technical work, engineering judgment, and ownership—not for Ivy League degrees, Big Tech pedigree, age, or fancy writing.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively in a remote, high-trust, and fast-paced environment.
